Motorists warned over car maintenance cutbacks

10 June 2009

Finding cheaper car insurance may be preferable to cutbacks elsewhere, with Kwik-Fit urging motorists not to attempt reducing costs on vehicle servicing.

One in four British motorists intend on saving money by skipping their next car service, according to research by the vehicle servicing company.

However, more than a fifth of motorists (22%) appear to be happy enough to pay out for a regular car wash or valet service, when a service costs only marginally more.

David White, Customer Services Director at Kwik-Fit, said: "It is great that so many motorists take pride in the appearance of their car but if money's tight they would probably be wise to wash the car themselves and put the money towards a service.

"After all, there's no point in having a gleaming car if it's on the road to nowhere."

Recent research by uSwitch.com indicated that a fifth of third party car insurance policy holders have cut back to reduce costs.
