More customers are making their way into showrooms as a result of the government's car scrappage scheme, it has been suggested.
The initiative is "doing its job", said a spokesperson for the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Limited, who revealed that consumer confidence is seeing an increase.
She revealed that with 60,000 orders currently in place, they will not be "translated into vehicle registrations until June or July and may be later dependent on the vehicle".
The scheme will also have a knock-on effect in that it keeps people in the UK in employment, either through manufacturing itself or the sales side of things.
The Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform states that vehicle production in 2008 was just under 1.65 million units.
