In-car gadgets are a major cause of distraction for many motorists, according to new research carried out by the used car website motors.co.uk. The survey revealed that 70.6% of drivers are put off by accessories in their vehicles and 52.9% would like to see fewer non-essential add-ons to help them keep their attention focussed on the road. Satellite navigation systems were cited as a major driving distraction by almost 30% of those polled, while 21% said music gadgets such as CD players and iPods can make them lose their concentration. Katie Armitage, Marketing Manager for motors.co.uk said: "Many modern cars are filled with gadgets and gizmos and for many drivers are seen as not only confusing to use but also a major cause of distraction for both themselves and other drivers." In related news, the Institute of Advanced Motorists is warning drivers to be prepared for additional hazards on the roads during the autumn months. These include fallen leaves, surface water and fog, which could become a cause of accidents, forcing motorists to make claims on their car insurance policies.
