A court ruling that means mobile phone roaming fees in the EU will soon be capped is likely to be welcomed by holidaymakers.

uSwitch.com found that around 22 million people will take their mobile phones overseas this summer, with eight out of ten indicating they are charged too much to use them.

Matthew Wheeler, Communications Expert at the site, welcomed the news, but offered a word of caution to some travellers.

He explained: "The caps coming into play only protect those travelling inside the EU.

"Holidaymakers venturing further afield to flee the euro will still need to keep a close eye on how they use their phone."

The price comparison site advised people to ask their mobile phone provider to set an affordable cap on their contract or to switch off data roaming while abroad.

This follows the release of a guide by uSwitch.com, pointing out how people can reduce costs when using mobile phones outside of the UK.
