A new tool has been launched by the government in an attempt to help people find jobs.

Mobile phone users will be able to download an app which enables them to search through thousands of job vacancies with ease.

Furthermore, it has been programmed to notify job hunters when the latest opportunities which match their preferences become available.

Employment Minister Jim Knight commented: "In this digital age being online is not a luxury, it is a basic right.

"Evidence shows that access to the internet improves exam grades, earning potential and can save up to £600 on family bills."

The tool is available to anyone who uses an iPhone, iPod touch or Google mobile phone and its GPS capabilities allow people to search for vacancies in the surrounding area.

Google recently unveiled its first mobile phone, the Nexus One, which is only available through its own hosted web store.
