Newlyweds holding back on credit card spending

14 April 2005

Morgan Stanley Credit Cards has today revealed that the most effective way to spend less on credit cards appears to be to get married.

Research conducted by the financial group found that newly married couples are spending significantly less amounts of money on credit cards as they cut back on the Saturday night spending in favour of a night in front of the television.

Morgan Stanley discovered that married and cohabiting couples are saving an average of £2,548 a year by opting for the quieter night in.

People in committed relationships appear to extend their social life to a solitary one night out a week, the survey notes, in comparison to singletons who supposedly have more of an incentive to get out and party at least twice a week.

Couples who don't live together have the most active social lives, Morgan Stanley reveals, going out and spending £4,056 a year.

Married couple contrastingly spend just £1,058.
