Consumers travelling abroad this summer should make use of ATMs according to a leading travel publisher.
The ever-popular Rough Guides recommends bucking the trend of late that has seen holidaymakers refraining from using the cash points as usage charges come down and accessibility increases.
A plethora of cash machines has sprung up around the globe over the past 12 months and the high charges imposed by banks for the use of ATMs abroad is gradually being reduced after repeated calls for action from industry watchdogs to regulators.
Rough Guides spokesperson Demelza Dallow explained: "You will be getting charged for the transactions, but then you have to balance that against exchanging money when you're back in the UK.
"And actually the rates you're getting charged for that, there's not a lot in it between a rate that a bank may charge you in the UK and the rate you might be charged whilst you're withdrawing money."
Speaking to the BBC, Ms Dallow added that ordering cash on-line for collection at the destination airport is also a convenient way to obtain money, and gives a better rate of exchange.
