Britons are setting new records for charity donations on their credit cards, according to a new report.
The Association of Payment and Clearing Services (APACS) found that charitable donations on credit cards reached a record peak of £373.7 million since the beginning of 2005.
There has been a £200 million increase from the initial four months of 2004 year, when £173.3 million was donated by credit card to political, social and religious organisations.
The figures represent a 116 per cent increase from the figures last year.
The primary reason for the significant increase in giving is thought to be the high profile campaigns run by the Central Disasters Emergency Committee following the tsunami.
Paul Rodford, Head of Cards Policy at APACS, said: "The Great British public pledged an incredible amount of money to both the Tsunami disaster and Red Nose Day and both worthy causes had these sums enhanced thanks to the cards industry pulling together to waive fees on any donations made by debit and credit cards."
