Credit cards for breaks away

22 June 2005

UK parents are still paying over the odds in order to take their families abroad during their children's school holidays.

Research by Morgan Stanley Consumer Banking has found that holidays to some destinations can be up to 89 per cent higher during school holidays, meaning that many have to come up with other ways of funding their time away.

One convenient way to fund that much-needed break is by using a credit card, especially if it offers you low interest rates, or if you can transfer onto a low interest card.

Marketing director at Morgan Stanley Consumer Banking, Patrick Muir, said: "Price hikes can hit parents hard during the school holidays, when resorts and travel companies know that families have to take their summer break.

"Our latest research shows that Brits need to be careful when planning their holiday destination to avoid paying over the odds for a few days of sun."
