A new survey has found that British women are spending less on their credit cards in order to acquire the sometime sought after 'celebrity looks'.
However, fashion-conscious women are still spending plenty on clothes and accessories, but on their own style, with £3.5 billion spent on credit cards in the last year.
Figures from Virgin Money Credit Card's Celebrity Spending survey revealed that spending was £1 billion down on a year ago.
Women have spent on average £500 on fake tan, designer accessories and hair extensions.
Scott Mowbray, of Virgin Money credit cards, said: "It seems despite the drop in overall spend, our statistics show women still feel pressured to emulate celebrity style this year and, despite this slowdown, many women still see beauty treatments such as facials and manicures as essential.
"While it's nice to treat ourselves, we need to keep our quest for perfection in perspective and live within our financial means."
