Barclaycard says it is to withdraw its Nectar card offering after canvassing the opinions for customers on the loyalty scheme.
From August 31st the firm says it will withdraw from Nectar, with home insurance products replacing the points system.
The firm will also seek to provide other travel and holiday insurance related products, a move it said stemmed directly from consumer wishes.
Mark Gonnella, consumer affairs director for Barclaycard: "We are constantly reviewing and developing the services and offers we provide to customers, based on their feedback.
"The vast majority are now saying to us very clearly that they value the back-up support we provide, particularly when it comes to travel. We have decided to make this change as a result."
"We will be sending letters to all our customers explaining the situation to them personally," he added.
