Egg advices credit card planning

27 March 2006

Credit card firm Egg has issued advice for borrowers, helping them get the most from their credit card.

Mark Maguire, spokesperson for Egg said that if you are going to spend on your credit card, make sure you know how much you can afford.

He advises that credit card users calculate what they have remaining after paying the bills to be sure you are budgeting correctly.

"Some things are predictable, such as your mortgage and some things are more sporadic, such as restaurants," said Mr Maguire.

"If you know how much you will have after bills, then you will know what you can spend and also where you can make savings."

"22 per cent of people we surveyed said their credit card bill was made up with day to day spending"

A recent report by Egg found that Brits spend more on daily lifestyle purchases - such as snacks, cigarettes, soft drinks and newspapers (At £65 billion a year) - than on expensive items such as holidays.

It also revealed that 51% admit they rarely keep track of day-to-day spending, but always shop around for big ticket items such as computers, televisions and cars.
