Mums could use credit cards as a way of controlling the costs of kitting out their kids, according to a senior industry figure.
New mums now spend an average of £406 a year on clothes for their children, with more and more opting to kit their kids out in designer gear.
According to research by credit card firm Mint, 55% say they have bought the latest mini trainers and 35% admit to dressing their toddlers up in designer clothes.
Jerry Toher, managing director of Mint said: "The financial pressures on modern mums are greater now than ever before without having to worry about budgeting for a baby's wardrobe. As long as people look to manage their money sensibly, credit cards can be an effective way to control short-term expenditure.
"For instance, a Mint card allows you 59 days free of interest, which can be extremely useful if you need to pay for a number of things in one go – clothes and accessories or school trips, for instance," he added.
