A postal worker has admitted stealing more than 100 credit cards in a scam worth over £800,000.
Ali Dahir, from Gloucester, stole the cards from a local sorting office in Swindon, before passing them on to a criminal contact. Although he did not benefit financially himself from the crime, he was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment.
A total of £870,000 was fraudulently taken through the operation, with holidays and sports cars bought with the stolen money.
Detective inspector Simon Atkinson of Gloucestershire Police said: "The cards were produced for Barclaycard by a firm in Gloucestershire. They were picked up by the Royal Mail and taken to the sorting office.
"Dahir's job was to ensure that what was dropped off at the office is what the company said was being dropped off."
According to Which?, Royal Mail said in a statement: "Royal Mail has a zero-tolerance approach to any form of crime and will always seek to prosecute the tiny minority of people who abuse their position of trust and undermine the dedication and honesty of the vast majority of our hardworking postmen and women."
