Three quarters of European consumers (73%) would like a credit card which offers rewards of some sort, according to new figures.
MasterCard Worldwide has undertaken research into the credit card habits of consumers and discovered that just under half (48%) admit to spending reward points on themselves.
This was almost double the number who would give their reward points to a charity or environmental organisation (25%) and more than double the number who would spend them on their family and friends (20%).
Frederic Conrads, MasterCard Europe spokesman, said: "Our research suggests that consumers take a very pragmatic approach to rewards on their credit cards. They want the flexibility to alternate between everyday items, such as money off petrol and the occasional treat such as a discounted city break.
"A card that allows them to choose what they want, when they want it, is most likely to be top of the wallet."
