A new survey from UK payment association Apacs has found that Britons are withdrawing more money from cash points than any of their European neighbours.
The number of cash machines in the UK in the last six years has more than doubled, with 58,286 ATMs recorded in 2005.
Sandra Quinn, Apacs spokesperson, said: "The fact is we get an exceptional level of service in the UK.
"Not only do we expect cash for free from our own bank's cash machines - which is not always the case elsewhere in the world - but we get to use their competitors' machines for free as well.
"Over the next decade we'll be continuing to use cards more and cash less, especially for lower-value purchases.
"However, there's still absolutely no sign of us becoming a 'cashless society' and whilst this is the case the future of the cash machine remains rosy."
Around 2.7 billion transactions were made by Britons last year, which equates to around 42 withdrawals per person.
