Play your cards right, Halifax urges consumers

28 November 2006

All the major credit card companies are vying for consumers' attentions at this time of year, but Halifax is urging consumers to really spend some time looking around to see what's best for them before committing to a card which could cost them more money.

Peter Jackson, head of products at Halifax, stated: "Many people may have already made their Christmas purchases on expensive store cards. Switching to a credit card with a 0% introductory offer on balance transfers could help them lower the overall cost of Christmas spends."

Mr Jackson was also keen to highlight the fact that it takes ten days, on average, for a credit card application to be completed, so if consumers want to get a beneficial credit card in time for their festive spending they should apply now.

Halifax hopes to offer a card suitable for everyone. Its One card offers either 0% for nine months on both balance transfers and purchases, with a typical APR of just 9.9%, or 0% for 12 months on balance transfers and purchases, with a typical APR of 12.9%.

Alternatively, for the consumer thinking further ahead, Halifax also offers a Flat Rate card with a rate of just 5.9% on both balance transfers and purchases.
