Despite numerous offers being made available on the credit card market, research from Goldfish has revealed that over half of British consumers own credit cards which don't offer them a reward.
Just 17% hold a credit card with promotional offer on purchases or balance transfers. Loyalty schemes were also relatively low in numbers, with just 30% of those polled holding a retail reward card where they can collect points to redeem with retailers.
More than one in five people (21%) currently take advantage of cashback credit cards. Cards which enable people to collect Airmiles or travel points were found to be the third most popular loyalty scheme with 9%.
In addition, just 17% of UK cardholders are taking advantage of the new wave of low rate balance transfer and purchase promotional deals on the market.
Charlotte Hogg, Managing Director for the Goldfish Credit Card, commented: "Credit card holders need to demand more from their plastic. If customers hold a card that doesn't reward their spending then they should investigate what other cards might be better suited to their spending patterns.
"We have found that an increasing number of our customers are using their credit cards for everyday purchases such as groceries and petrol, realising that they can reap rewards for all the regular purchases they make anyway."
