Consumers are being warned to make an extra effort to protect their finances while abroad after insurance firm CPP revealed that overseas credit card fraud is on the rise.
Last year, the firm allocated resources for over 9,000 cases of overseas card fraud, with Spain, France and Italy being the destinations where travellers were most likely to have their details stolen.
Zoe Manton, Head of Card Protection at CPP, said that more cases of card fraud were being reported in countries where the use of chip and PIN were not widely being used, since it gave thieves the opportunity to "skim" details from the cards.
"As summer vacation is approaching, we are urging holiday makers to be vigilant at all times abroad," she added.
Total card fraud costs last year amounted to 118 million and accounted for more than 28% of credit and debit card fraud cases affecting British consumers.
