Safety conscious Britons are taking more care of their credit cards when buying online, new figures from APACS suggest.
According to the UK payment association, ten million cards in the UK have now been registered with secure online payment systems such as MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa services.
These services allow consumers to have greater peace of mind when using their credit card online. Using a password to be used online with participating retailers, consumers can be assured of greater card protection when making online purchases.
"Ten million registered cards is clearly an important milestone in the development of e-commerce in the UK," Sandra Quinn, Director of Communications at APACS, said.
"The industry has worked hard to provide practical solutions to fight online shopping fraud and we are calling on those cardholders not yet signed up to do so and take the appropriate security measures when shopping online."
The news comes as the Office for Fair Trading (OFT) issued a warning to credit card users about a scam relating to unfair bank charges.
Impostors pertaining to be from the OFT have been asking people for their bank accounts details over the phone and using them to obtain money from accounts illegally.
