Credit card holders are helping to raise record amounts for charitable causes by using their plastic, new figures reveal.
Statistics from HBOS reveal affinity card users have helped to raise £20 million for good causes in just under two decades.
The firm's data suggests that charity cards with Halifax and the Royal Bank of Scotland have helped to raise funds for charities including Cancer Research UK, the NSPCC and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).
Last week, the Co-operative Bank announced it has generated £2 million for Amnesty International (AI) through money raised by holders of its AI credit card, first launched in 1993.
The firm has one of the widest ranges of charity cards including partnerships with Shelter, The Woodland Trust, Greenpeace and Oxfam.
Commenting on the figures, Ken Stannard, Head of HBOS credit cards said: "To break through the £20 million donation barrier shows the popularity and the impact charity credit cards have.
"We're delighted that they remain so popular as every card makes a difference in helping these worthy causes."
This opinion was echoed by Carol Karaca, Partnership Manager from the Co-operative Bank, who added: "Affinity credit cards like the Amnesty International card, remain a fantastic way for customers to help their chosen charity, whilst also benefiting from the use of a competitively priced product."
