Credit card firm American Express has unveiled changes to its Platinum service by launching a 5% cashback offer.
Under the scheme, introduced in time for the festive period, new customers will get 5% money back over their first three months.
Customers who spend big at Christmas could therefore stand to earn around £200 by using the card, AmEx claim.
However, Personal Finance Expert at uSwitch Mike Naylor pointed out that card holders should make sure that they pay off their balance at the end of the month in order to maximise the potential financial benefits of the card.
He added: "This is perfectly timed to benefit customers who plan to use their credit card for Christmas shopping or to hit the January sales.
"Overall this is a good offer that could enable customers to buy those extra stocking fillers at Christmas time - whilst earning cashback along the way."
Mr Naylor also said that AmEx's cashback offer for the card after the three month period ends - 1.5% - is still "one of the most competitive" deals on the market.
