Credit card use is becoming ever more widespread, new figures from Abbey show.
Research from the financial services group has revealed that no fewer than 3 million Britons buy on credit at least once a day.
Moreover, around 18 million use their cards at least once a week - a slight majority (54%) of the 34 milllion card holders in the UK.
Roger Lovering, Managing Director of Abbey Credit Cards, said: “There is no one way that people use their credit card and we see as many different spending patterns as there are people.
"Our job, as an innovative credit card provider, is to offer benefits on our Abbey credit card that are relevant to all the different types of credit card user."
The Abbey survey also provided further evidence for the increasing prevalence of online shopping in the UK - which many undertake on their credit cards for security reasons.
Around 20 million Britons (61%) were found to currently use cards for internet shopping.
This bears out uSwitch research published yesterday, which predicted a £40 billion online shopping spend this year - driven by a massive £14 billion of festive internet sales.
