Just 1% of Britons are fighting fit in keeping complete control over their personal finances, new research from Abbey has shown.
Elsewhere, the vast majority are "financially overweight" - showing irresponsible and slack practices with their credit cards, banking and whether or not they shopped around for the best deals.
Abbey tracked the results of their survey on a "financial fitness" percentage scale, with zero indicating a "financially fit machine" and 100 showing "financial obesity".
Worryingly, the poll found that 46% of women and 41% of men were overweight - and that just 1% scored under ten on the scale.
Sue Hayes, Director at Abbey said: "As many gear up to shift the pounds they pile on over the festive period, we would encourage people to review the financial products they hold and shop around to ensure that they are getting the most competitive deal available.
"Like exercise, a financial workout can take a bit of effort but for most people the rewards are well worth the exertion."
Taken on a region by region basis, Abbey's research found that Wales and the south-west were the financially fittest areas in the UK (42% overweight) - while the north of England, at 46%, had the biggest weight problem.
