Government agency Consumer Direct has announced a new initiative targeting credit card scams and other types of fraud.
With the advent of high-speed internet and email, such fraudulent activities have grown in numbers and variety in recent years.
Consequently, Consumer Direct has added a reporting service on its own website - which will allow members of the public who have suffered fraud or an attempted fraud to provide details to the agency.
In turn, these details will be made available to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and local trading standards.
Operations Manager for Consumer Direct Greg South said: "In the past, people who have been targeted by scammers via the post, phone or internet may have felt unsure about how they could help.
"This new online form will enable them to provide vital intelligence to the enforcement community."
OFT research suggests that financial fraud costs consumers £3.5 billion a year.
