Fine for ATM attacker

9 May 2008

A man who attacked an ATM machine in Swansea has been told that he must pay a £155 fine for the offence.

Police at the scene apparently told Dean Lewis to stop but he carried on and insisted that he wanted his cash card back after claiming it had been swallowed, reports the South Wales Evening Post.

His solicitor, Grayson Tanner, stated that the individual was "upset" about the episode on April 24th in Wind Street and tried to defend the man's actions.

"If he had not been in such a drunken state, he may not have acted in the way he did. He acted out of frustration," he said.

Magistrates Chairman Phil Llewellyn remarked that Lewis had lost his "good character" because of the crime. He did not have any convictions previously.

This week, it was revealed that thieves were unsuccessful in an attempt to take a chip and pin machine from a petrol station in Surrey.
