Muslims meet to talk debt

Birmingham Muslims have met to discuss debt problems and how they can be solved at a special event.

The meeting was organised by Islamic Relief and took place at a day centre in Birmingham Central Mosque recently, reports the Birmingham Post.

Emeritus Professor of Social Theology at the University of Birmingham Professor Michael Taylor looked specifically at the ways debt, which may have been created on credit cards, can be solved.

Development Education Co-ordinator at Islamic Relief Hamayoon Sultan said that there should be a greater level of equality in the world.

"Whilst the unpayable debts of some countries have been cancelled, many changes must be made to the international financial system to secure a hopeful future for some of the world's poorest people," the campaigner said.

Recently uSwitch.com stated that consumers are often faced with confusing charges on their credit cards. Elements such as the reduction of credit limits have led to the changes, it observed.
