UK consumers are making large purchases via their credit cards on Saturdays, according to fresh research.
On this day of the week Brits are likely to splash out £549,000 on average in their lifetimes, Co-Operative Bank Credit Cards has said.
And almost three-quarters of those studied stated that they spent more than they budgeted for at the weekend.
Product Manager of Credit Cards at the bank Maxine Xodo suggested that longer working hours in the UK mean that people simply want to unwind and have a good time when the week is over.
She commented: "As a nation we work some of the longest hours in Europe and a large number of us live for the weekend, with Saturday being the one day where people feel they can let their hair down and enjoy themselves."
But she added that it is highly important shoppers know their limits and do not spend over the odds.
Gregory Pennington - the debt advice outfit - recently urged Britons to reign in their spending during the credit crunch.
