Cotton Traders' cards hacked

11 June 2008

Personal credit card details of those using the Cotton Traders website have been accessed by hackers, the firm revealed.

The owners of the company said that the breach took place in January but that it is not yet clear if any money has been taken from those affected.

All the major banks have been told of the incident and consumers have been re-issued with cards following the attack, Cotton Traders noted.

"In January 2008, we identified a security issue. We immediately brought in industry security experts to resolve the problem," the organisation said.

Those who have been hit by fraud ought to get in contact with their service providers, the clothing website added.

Cotton Traders was created by former England rugby players Steve Smith and Fran Cotton.

Last year, those who had shopped at retailer TK Maxx were urged to check their bank statements following a similar criminal episode there.
