Machine 'eating bank cards'

30 June 2008

Residents in the Meads area of Sussex have said that a cash machine has been eating their bank cards and have called for help. As a result of the problems, a spokesperson at local shop Grand Flowers stated that staff can hear the ATM making a bleeping sound, reports the Bexhill Observer. Registrar for St Andrew's School Sue Offord stated that she did not receive much help after calling a national helpline, something that might interest those with credit cards. "They were not at all helpful because I am not a customer and all I managed to get out of them was an address so I could write and complain," she commented to the paper. But a spokesman at Nationwide said that there was a "minor" technical fault with the machine and this has now been rectified. The Post Office last week said that it has rolled out fresh ATM terminals in a number of areas that enable consumers to withdraw foreign currencies free of charge.
