Consumers in the south-east and London are more likely to be hit by credit card fraud than those elsewhere in the UK, it has been suggested. Fraud prevention outfit Cifas said that in the first six months of 2008, 104,548 cases were logged and that people are also prone to mobile telephone and loans scams. Research Manager at the company Sandra Peaston noted that it is "remarkable" such activity is focused on the capital. "London is a city of stark contrast where extraordinarily wealthy and socially disadvantaged people often live in close proximity. This can both provoke and help to facilitate fraudulent behaviour," she commented. Head of Communications at Cifas Kate Beddington-Brown added that potential criminals head to the places they believe will provide most success. This week, uSwitch.com urged holidaymakers to pay for their trips away on an interest free credit card in order to save cash in the future.
