Credit card reward schemes are worthwhile to consumers and they should do their best to ensure that these are adhered to, it has been suggested. Head of Cards at Sainsbury's Finance Donald MacLeod said that points ought to be redeemed but that consumers should ensure they get good value from them. Mr MacLeod asserted that people need to ask themselves questions so that when they have collected enough points on credit cards they can be put to good use. "You might be spending merrily away and collecting all the points, but when it comes to the crunch you can't do anything with them," he commented. Those who find that the whole process is "awkward" should adopt measures that are a lot more straightforward, he added. Recent research from the bank found that while 8.19 million people gathered rewards via these means in the last 12 months, only three million redeemed points.
