Consumers urged to do their credit card research

18 August 2008

Consumers are being urged to do plenty of research before taking out a new credit card in order to make sure they are getting the best deal. According to a report in the Independent, different credit cards offer different features that are better suited to some consumers than others. For example, it says those looking to use a credit card to pay for a large purchase such as a new household appliance may wish to opt for a card that has a long 0% period for purchases. Meanwhile, a consumer who is able to pay off their balance in full every month may want to consider cards offering cashback and other reward schemes such as air miles. An article in the Telegraph also advises consumers to shop around if they feel they are not getting the most out of their credit card. "If you are paying more than you need to for your credit card, it makes sense to switch to an interest-free deal while they are still available," it states.
