Goldfish customers to receive new Barclaycards

11 September 2008

Barclaycard is to issue new credit cards to the 1.7 million customers it acquired with the purchase of Goldfish earlier this year. The credit card business, which was owned by Discover Financial Services, was bought by Barclaycard six months ago for £35 million. Now Goldfish customers are being transferred to Barclaycard and will be provided with one of nine new or existing credit cards from the provider. The new cards are guaranteed to offer all the benefits previously enjoyed by Goldfish customers prior to the acquisition, such as reward and cashback programmes Amer Sajed, Managing Director of UK Cards at Barclaycard, said the Goldfish portfolio included one of the best known reward schemes available to credit card customers. "It is one of the first things which comes to mind when you think of Goldfish and we wanted to take advantage of this heritage and build upon it to create a range of products to meet the expectations of our new customers," he remarked. Meanwhile, Barclaycard has announced its intention to expand its contactless payment system which allows customers to make small purchases on their credit cards without having to enter their PIN number.
