Holidays 'still finding favour'

3 March 2009

People are still going on holiday despite the economic downturn, new figures show, with people refusing to sacrifice some time in the sun. According to American Express, cost is the most important factor for many travellers, with people being careful how much they put on their credit cards. "If you are planning on going on holiday further afield or even to your usual destination, take the time to make sure that you have the right cover to avoid costly mishaps," says Chris Rolland, Head of American Express insurance services. The cost of the holiday is a top priority for 16% of holidaymakers, the statistics show, while one in eight are planning on heading outside of Europe to get the best deals. According to the Association of British Travel Agents Holiday Value Report 2009, 66 per cent of the UK's tourists get a huge emotional high from a summer holiday. Heading abroad?
