The travel sector is particularly prone to fraudsters, with some choosing to buy air tickets with stolen details, it is believed.
Jemma Smith, Head of Public Relations at APACS, believes certain security procedures available in the UK might not be apparent in other countries.
"If you look at total fraud losses in the UK - for every type of fraud, for every industry - on UK-issued cards, [there were] losses of £609.9 million last year," she reveals.
Security precautions such as Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode make all the difference when it comes to protecting cards in the UK, Ms Smith adds.
The latest Unisys Security Index shows 88% of consumers are concerned about other people obtaining and using their credit card, debit card or bank account details.
