Holidaymakers 'not being savvy' with travel money

1 June 2009

Despite Britons looking for bargain holidays this year, many are not making savings through their travel money, research has shown.

Findings from Tesco Travel Money have revealed that less than half of holidaymakers look around for the best deal on their currency, while more than a quarter opt for convenience over finding the best rate.

A Tesco Travel Money spokesperson said: "It's great to see that holidaymakers are pulling out the stops to get value for money and making sacrifices to ensure they get their two weeks in the sun.

"But they're still missing a trick with their holiday spending money."

The findings revealed that 54% of travellers are intending on cutting back on food and drink costs this year, with a further 33% hoping to avoid eating out by going on self-catering breaks.

FairFX.com recently found that Britons are not spending prudently while on holiday and are failing to make the most of their travel cash.
