Account takeover fraud is on the rise, it has been revealed, with many of its victims saying how they were unaware it had happened until it was too late.
CIFAS - the UK's Fraud Prevention Service, reported a 207% in incidents, which generally occur when someone's account is hijacked.
Richard Hurley, CIFAS Communications Manager, stated: "Cases such as these just go to demonstrate how parasitic fraudsters are funding their own lifestyle with no thought for the scope of the damage that they inflict."
One victim spoke of how she was contacted by her card provider after several online purchases were made over several days, which was out of character.
The latest Unisys Security Index found that 88 per cent of people are concerned about others gaining unauthorised access to or misusing their personal information.
