Customers are to be reunited with cash from old bank accounts that they no longer use or had forgotten about.
Halifax said that it would be launching a campaign to reunite customers with what is rightfully theirs, following the release of details about the government's dormant account scheme.
Cash that has been left for 15 years or more will be used to fund community projects such as financial inclusion under the new government programme.
Before this scheme is introduced, however, customers can claim their long-lost money at any time, as Halifax made it clear that "the cash is always owned by the customer".
The bank will be advertising in regional and national press in order to reunite customers with the money in old current accounts. A help desk and specialised website will also be set up in the cause and customers will see notices in Halifax branches too.
Peter Jackson, head of banking and savings at the bank, said: "We will be working hard to reunite dormant accounts with their owners. Customers should rest assured that the money will always be theirs."
