Link listens to consumers

28 April 2006

The Link ATM network has begun working with a consumer committee in order to better understand the demands of cash point users.

The new committee has had its first meeting. It will deal with issues such as the transparency of charges for people drawing money out of their current account, access to free-of-charge cash machines and also financial exclusion.

Senior members of the National Consumer Council met with Link, bank and independent ATM representatives to discuss the issues.

Ken Andrew, the independent chairman of the committee said: "The committee has a vital role to play in shaping the Link Scheme's work to address important consumer issues such as access to free cash machines, and ensuring transparency of charges in cases where access to cash can only be achieved through charging machines.

"The committee will hold the scheme to account for the effectiveness of its work on these issues."

The newly formed committee will have the right to publish a report each year, reflecting on Link's success in acting on consumer concerns.
