Cardless loyalty scheme for football fans

15 June 2006

Customers of one of the UK's largest high street banks are to be offered a new loyalty scheme that does not involve the need to carry around a card.

Lloyds TSB has linked up with Europe's largest sports loyalty company Reward to offer sports and above all football fans the new scheme.

Credit and debit card holders with the bank simply need to register their card with their favourite football team and will then earn points every time they purchase items from a participating retailer.

Points collected can be redeemed for a number of rewards, such as a shoot out with players and memorabilia.

"This is a new and exciting development in the way customers are rewarded, giving them something of unique value that money can't buy, funded through everyday spending," said Kevin Coles, head of business enterprise at Lloyds TSB Cardnet.

"We've all had loyalty cards in the past and forgotten to use them, missing out on lots of collection opportunities. The new process also avoids slowing down the payment process at the point of sale."

Gavin Dein, chief executive officer of Reward, said: "Supporting football clubs is costing fans more and more each year. This cardless reward programme has been developed to pay for peoples passions.

"This isn't just about big clubs either; we have already signed up over 80 clubs from the Conference League to the Premier League."

The scheme will be rolled out across the UK at the start of August, after an initial trial with Aberdeen FC.
