LINK, operator of the UK cash machine network, has signed a reciprocal agreement with US ATM supplier PULSE.
The deal allows the 4,200 financial institutions participating in the PULSE ATM/debit network access to virtually every one of the 58,000 cash machines in the UK.
In return, LINK's 38 participating institutions will be granted access to the 250,000 PULSE cash machines in the US.
According to John Hardy, Chief Executive, LINK, said: "As the world's busiest cash machine network, LINK has a proven track record in secure and reliable transaction processing on a large scale. PULSE participants will be able to offer their cardholders the convenience of access to cash through virtually every cash machine across the United Kingdom."
"PULSE is responding to the needs of its participants by giving issuers an international alternative at competitive interchange rates," said PULSE President David R. Schneider.
He added: "like PULSE in the US, LINK is an acknowledged leader in switching and settling cash machine transactions, with an emphasis on network infrastructure management, reliable and secure technology, and superior customer service.
"This strategic extension of ATM access into a region with high US tourist and business traveller traffic will provide additional value to our participants' cardholders."
