HSBC unveils ATM payphone

26 September 2006

HSBC has unveiled its first ATM payphone in Surrey this week.

As part of the group's commitment to providing free cash machines across Britain, HSBC will install the first device in Surrey.

Working alongside BT, HSBC plans to install 50 cash machines in high-street BT payphone kiosks as part of its pledge to install 500 new ATMs this year.

The first five machines will be operational by early October while the remaining 45 will be set up over the next few months.

David Nibloe, HSBC spokesman, said: "ATMs are well and truly a way of life for UK consumers today and our customers are telling us that they want free access to their cash in convenient locations, which is why we're increasing our ATM estate from around 2,900 to over 3,400.

"We're also responding to concerns about access to free ATMs in Britain and have committed to installing free machines in a number of areas that lack them."
