Barclays has commented on the measures it takes to prevent internet fraud, following a new study on the subject of internet security.
Research by Get Safe Online has recently revealed that 21 per cent of internet users are fearful of falling victim to fraud while online.
Elizabeth Holloway, Barclays spokesperson, explained some of the measures being taken to protect against internet fraud.
She said: "We are constantly working to ensure the security of online banking. We never ask customers for all of their security details and use drop-down menus for them to select letters of their memorable word to avoid key stroke logging programs recording the letters."
Barclays also offers free anti-virus software which prevents banking transactions and other online activities against spyware and Trojans, she added.
Ms Holloway concluded: "In 2007 we will be introducing a chip and PIN system for online banking customers. Handheld card readers will be distributed to active online banking customers."
