Wealthiest most at risk of ID fraud

New research has shown that it is the wealthiest customers who are most at risk of ID fraud.

Global information solutions provider Experian has announced new figures which show the likeliest victims of fraud are also the wealthiest.

The study quizzed 4,000 victims of identity fraud and found that London was the overwhelming capital of such activity in the UK.

Credit and store card issuers were also revealed as the hardest hit financial organisations when it comes to ID fraud.

Jill Stevens, Experian spokesperson, said: "It takes an average of 450 days to discover you've been the target of identity fraud and you can then face up to 300 hours putting the record straight, so it makes sense to take every precaution.

"It is important that people take steps to minimise the chances of becoming a victim of identity fraud. Checking your credit report regularly through a service like CreditExpert is a simple way of making sure nobody has hijacked your credit history."
