The British Bankers' Association (BBA) has commented on the charging of fees by banks.
This follows comments by Which? at the Building Societies Association annual lecture that many financial service providers are not putting their customers at the heart of their business.
Brian Capon, BBA spokesperson, said fees were a competitive issue for individual banks and commented on whether banks make it difficult for customer to switch bank accounts.
He said: "They don't make it difficult, in fact just the opposite. Banks are very keen to take on new customers and it is very, very easy to change accounts. A lot of people are still under the impression that it's a difficult process but it isn't.
"The new bank that you choose, in virtually every case, will simply take a couple of authorities from you and they will handle all of the transfer arrangements for you."
