A new survey from financial services provider Birmingham Midshires has revealed that a significant number of people over the age of 45 use the internet to keep tabs on their finances.
Three in five over-45s use internet banking, with 38 per cent believing that looking after their finances online has had the greatest impact on their money management.
Furthermore, the Life 2 report found over-45s' desire to look at their accounts over the internet has been fuelled by online comparison websites.
These sites are used by 59 per cent of them, who find it the perfect way to ensure they are cutting their costs.
Jason Robinson, director of savings operations at Birmingham Midshires said: "Our Life 2 research shows that the over-45s are clearly switched on in their ability to use the internet for creating and managing wealth.
"The findings show that this age group are far removed from the computer illiterate and technophobe stereotype and could probably teach their children a lot about shopping around for the best deals in both products and services."
