The Royal Bank of Scotland has become the latest bank to offer customers the chance to check their bank accounts via their mobile phone.
RBS and NatWest customers will soon be able to use their mobiles to keep track of their finances by accessing their account balance as well as viewing mini-statements via their mobile handset.
It is expected up to 13 million customers will also be able to top up their mobile pre-pay phone and receive SMS balance alerts.
Furthermore, in terms of security measures only a handset linked to the customer's account will be able to be used to access account information.
What is more, the software is free and there is currently no monthly or annual fee for using the service, however there may be a data charge from some network providers.
"Our focus is on providing excellent service to our customers and offering them a choice in how they manage their money," Paul Geddes, CEO of RBSG Consumer Banking said.
"Mobile phone banking will give people another easy way to access account information and even greater flexibility in managing their money at any time.
"No matter where someone is they can check the balance of their account. Being able to view mini-statements will show when payments have either gone into or out of the account. This enables people to manage their accounts when and where they want, even when outside of the UK
"We're sure this service will be popular, particularly with young people such as students whose phones are central to their lives and also want the easiest way to keep track of their money. Most 18 to 25 year olds always have their mobile phone on them so, as well as texting, taking photos and listening to music they'll be able to mange their money 24/7 too," Mr Geddes said.
RBS is planning on incorporating a payment and money transfer service via mobile for all current and savings accounts with a debit card in the near future.
