Britons who live overseas are accessing their current accounts over the internet in high numbers, Alliance & Leicester has said.
Research by the bank's own offshore division, Alliance & Leicester International Limited (ALIL), recently found that 92% of UK expats go online for banking.
The study also found that 41% of overseas residents cite the benefits of being able to check accounts at any time as an advantage of online banking - with 26% also appreciating the better rates offered to internet users for some financial services.
Managing Director of ALIL Simon Hull commented: "24-hour access to money is a necessity for most expats - with internet access now so readily available, offshore consumers should take advantage of internet banking and saving."
A recent study from Eurostat provides further evidence for increasing internet use across the continent.
Just over half of households across Europe (54%) accessed the web in the first quarter of last year - with internet usage rates highest in Iceland (84%) and the Netherlands (83%).
