People should not be "shy" when attempting to reclaim cash from their service providers that may have been taken from them in the form of overdraft charges, it has been suggested.
Speaking after the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) proved successful in an attempt to investigate overdraft fees, Founder of the Consumer Credit Action Group Marc Gander said that he is "amazed" more consumers do not know they can query banks.
He argued that these individuals, possibly with current accounts, should not be "blameworthy" and should instead realise that many charges handed out to them have in fact been against the law.
And people do not have to wait until the OFT's report is released in June, he noted, because a similar case in 2006 against credit card charges also proved to be successful.
"We're suggesting that people should get stuck in and start claiming straight away. Even without the help of a High Court judgement in 2006 the OFT ruled that credit card charges were unfair," he commented.
In the last year about £784 million was refunded to almost 378,000 consumers by banks, the BBC has said.
